The Old Man & The Gun is a 2018 drama movie, written and directed by David Lowery, and starring Hollywood (aging) stars Robert Redford, Danny Glover, Sissy Spacek and others.
The movie is based on a true story of Forrest Tucker, criminal who specialized in robbing banks, and after being arrested - escaping prison, only to go back to robbing banks.
I have already written about Robert Redford (which I love) - and as an aging Hollywood star - he continues to be a great actor, and provide us all with excellent performances.
The movie is very enjoyable, amusing and simply a "good-time" movie to watch - following the a group of three aging criminals successfully robbing banks, and more specifically, following Forrest's (Redford) personal life at his older days. It joins other movies in this genre (of older persons deciding to rob banks), like "Going in Style" (starring Morgan Freeman).
From a gerontological perspective - this is not an outstanding movie: it has some obvious ageist perspectives (e.g. the group of bank-robbers are named "Over The Hill Gang"; or suggesting that "older criminals" are nice, happy and act gentleman-like...); But on the other hand, it is a very anti-ageist movie, showing that crime (or bank robbing) - has no age limits...
Over all I would really recommend seeing the movie, simply to enjoy a good night show. But as an educational movie for a gerontological course - you can skip this one...
